Five of Our Favorite Fall Container Plants
The end of summer doesn't mean the end of your gorgeous container plants! There are plenty of plants that will provide colorful foliage throughout the fall season and for most of these, early September is the perfect time to plant them. Here are a few fall plants you'll find our Connecticut landscapers team planting this season:
Sedum is a classic fall container plant with blooms throughout late summer and fall that dry beautifully in the winter. You can leave sedum in its container throughout the winter season since the dried blooms are especially lovely topped with snow.
Coral bells (also known as Heuchera) come in a variety of colors and leaf textures and are a gardener's best friend since they are easy to grow and maintain. Coral bells look wonderful in containers on their own or paired with another plant such as mums.
Decorative cabbage and kale accent a fall container garden quite beautifully with their rotund shape and multi-colored leaves. They are stylishly bold with colors that intensify as the weather cools.
Sage is a common herb with enough visual interest to accent a fall container. It will withstand the colder temperatures easily, plus you can use it in a savory recipe!
White clover has graceful purple-pinkish leaves that add depth to a fall container. Don't let its daintiness fool you - it's quite hardy and will withstand cooler temps with ease.
